How to Improve Website Loading Speed

Rate this post

Website speed is often confused with page speed and is a measurement of how fast the content on your page loads. Website speed can be described as page load time. As we know that page load time is defined as time taken to display the website’s content and time to first byte is how long it takes for your browser to accept the first byte of information from the web server.

No matter how you measure it, a faster website speed is better. Many people have found that faster websites rank better. Google has indicated that website speed is one of the signals used by its algorithm to rank pages. In addition, Websites with a longer load time tend to have high bounce rates and lower average time on page as well. Longer load times have also been shown to negatively influence conversions. Here are some of the many ways to increase your page speed:

7 SEO Tips To Boost Page Speed

1. Optimize images

If you want to increase web page speed then your images should not be larger than they need to be, they should be in the right file format and should be compressed for the web. JPEGs are generally better for photographs while PNGs are generally better for graphics with fewer than 16 colors.

2. Enable compression

Use file compression software for example Gzip, in order to decrease the size of your HTML, CSS and JavaScript files which are greater than 150 bytes. Do not use Gzip on image files but you can compress these images in a program like Photoshop where you can keep control over the quality of the image.

3. Optimize CSS, JavaScript, and HTML

By optimizing your code you can dramatically increase your page speed. You can optimize your code by removing spaces, commas, and other unnecessary characters. You can also remove code comments, formatting, and unused code. Google recommends YUI Compressor for both CSS and JavaScript.

4. Using CDN

Content distribution networks (CDNs), also known as content delivery networks, are networks of servers that are used to distribute the load of delivering content. Basically, for faster and more reliable access to your website, copies of your site are stored at multiple geographically diverse data centers.

5. Remove unnecessary advertisements

Apart from bothering your visitors, a bunch of advertisements will just lower your page speed. So, if you want to increase the speed of your website then you should remove these unnecessary ads.

6. Ignore cheap web host

Essentially, your host performances depend on the price you are ready to give. You need to pick your host regarding your company size. A cheap host could lead to low page speed performances.

7. Influence browser caching

Browsers store a lot of information like stylesheets, images, JavaScript files, and so on so that when a visitor visits your website, the browser doesn’t have to reload the entire page.
